Mesh Integration Aftercare
Your mesh integration system is made of 100 percent human hair, but it is not your own growing hair, so it needs its own special care. A little routine keeps it looking natural, feeling comfortable, and lasting as long as possible. If you ever have a question or notice irritation, contact your Foxtail technician right away.
The first 48 hours
Give your scalp time to adjust to the system. Mild awareness of the new weight is normal for the first day or two, and for very sensitive clients up to a week. Wait at least 48 hours after a new system before washing it. If you have real irritation or discomfort, call us so we can check it.
Washing
- Wash no more than once a week, in an upright position such as in the shower.
- Towel dry gently. Squeeze and pat, never rub the hair together.
- Always use a styling serum, oil, or cream before drying.
- Dry the system thoroughly. Never leave it damp or wet, which can cause odor.
Brushing and sleeping
- Brush from the ends first and work up toward the roots to remove any knots.
- Brush styling products out before you wash.
- Sleep with your hair in a loose, low ponytail or braid.
Products to use and avoid
Use system friendly shampoos, conditioners, and styling products. Your stylist can recommend or stock the right ones. Avoid strong clarifying or dandruff shampoos and harsh drugstore brands, since the acids, sulfates, and detergents in them can break down the bond and cause matting. In strong sun, avoid heavy oils such as Moroccanoil, which can discolor lighter hair.
Coloring your system
Never use at home box dye on your system. All coloring, toning, or darkening should be done by a trained professional, using a peroxide level no higher than 6 percent. Always come to us for color services.
Maintenance and how long it lasts
Book a maintenance visit about every 4 to 6 weeks for your first application so we can check your natural hair underneath. After that, most clients extend to every 6 to 9 weeks. Please never try to remove the system yourself. Some shedding and light matting at the root is normal, it is simply your natural hair that has shed but cannot fall away while the system is in place, and we clear it safely at maintenance. With regular maintenance, your system typically lasts 9 to 12 months.
Swimming and travel
Keep your system dry and out of direct sun when you can, and wear a hat at the beach or pool. Before swimming, apply a leave in or conditioner as a barrier against salt and chlorine, then shampoo and condition afterward.
