How to Care for Your Mesh Integration System

Caring for your mesh integration system means treating it as the worn, 100 percent human hair unit it is. Wash it no more than once a week, dry it fully every time, use only professional color, and come in for maintenance every 4 to 6 weeks. Gentle, consistent habits protect both the system and your natural hair.

We put this guide together for every client who leaves our Pearland studio with a new system in 2026. A mesh integration is a real investment in how you look and feel, and a short list of simple habits keeps it soft, natural looking, and comfortable for its full wear time.

How Often Should You Wash Your System?

Less is more with a worn system. Here is the washing rhythm we recommend:

  • Wash no more than about once a week.
  • Wait at least 48 hours after a new system is applied before the first wash.
  • Wash upright rather than tipping your head back, for example while standing in the shower.

Give your scalp time to adjust as well. Most clients need up to 48 hours, and occasionally up to a week for a very sensitive scalp, to get used to the added weight. A little mild discomfort at the start can be normal. If it does not settle, call us and we will book an adjustment.

What Is the Right Way to Dry and Style It?

How you dry the system matters as much as how you wash it. Always dry it fully, because a damp system left to sit can develop odor. Never head to bed or out the door with it wet.

  • Towel dry by squeezing gently. Do not rub the hair together, which causes tangling.
  • Always work a styling serum, oil, or cream through the hair before you dry it.
  • Brush from the bottom up, easing out knots as you move toward the roots.

Can You Color a Mesh Integration System?

Yes, but only in professional hands. Color is where home shortcuts do the most damage.

  • Never use a home box dye. Home color voids your guarantee.
  • Any toning, darkening, or semi-permanent color should be done by a trained professional.
  • Peroxide should never go above 6 percent on the system.

Book your color with us and we will keep the tone right and the hair protected.

Which Products Should You Avoid?

Some everyday products quietly break down the bond that holds your system in place and can lead to matting.

  • Skip Moroccan oil. It contains linseed oil that can turn light hair orange in the sun.
  • Avoid harsh clarifying shampoos and strong dandruff shampoos. Brands like TIGI, Tresemme, Head and Shoulders, Herbal Essences, and Garnier Fructis fall in this group.
  • The acids and sulfates in those formulas can break the bond and cause matting.

If you ever notice matting, contact your technician right away so we can take care of it before it spreads.

How Often Do You Need a Maintenance Visit?

Regular maintenance is what protects the natural hair growing underneath your system.

  • For your first application, come in every 4 to 6 weeks so we can check the natural hair underneath.
  • Once we see how your hair and system are wearing, visits can extend to every 6 to 9 weeks.
  • Never remove the system yourself. Taking it off is always our job.

Some matting at the root is completely normal. It is natural shed hair that could not fall away while the unit was in place, and we brush it out safely at your visit.

Can You Swim With a Mesh Integration System?

You can, with a little preparation. Salt water and chlorine are hard on any worn hair, so protect it before you get in.

  • Run a leave-in or a normal conditioner through the hair first to create a barrier.
  • After swimming, always shampoo and condition to rinse out the salt and chlorine.

How Should You Sleep With Your System?

Nighttime friction is a common cause of tangling. Before bed, gather the hair into a loose low ponytail or a loose braid. That keeps the hair from rubbing against itself and your pillow, so you wake with far fewer knots to brush out.

Mesh Integration Aftercare FAQ

How soon can I wash my new system?

Wait at least 48 hours after your system is applied, then wash it no more than about once a week. Washing too often puts unnecessary stress on a worn system.

Is some matting at the root normal?

Yes. A little matting at the root is natural shed hair that could not fall away while the unit was in place, and we brush it out safely at maintenance. If you see widespread matting, contact us right away.

Can I use my regular shampoo?

Avoid harsh clarifying shampoos and strong dandruff shampoos such as TIGI, Tresemme, Head and Shoulders, Herbal Essences, and Garnier Fructis. Their acids and sulfates can break the bond. Ask us and we will point you to safe products.

Why can I not use Moroccan oil?

Moroccan oil contains linseed oil, which can turn light hair orange in the sun. We recommend a styling serum, oil, or cream that is safe for your system instead.

Can I remove the system at home?

No. Never remove the system yourself. Always let us remove and reapply it so your natural hair and the unit stay protected.
